Rubella IgG Antibodies Survey in Pregnant Women by ELISA Method

Abstract
The goal of all rubella control aimed in the prevention of congenital rubella syndrome that results from acute rubella infection in susceptible pregnant women. Since clinical recognition of rubella infection is unreliable and subclinical cases are common, this assesment relies heavily on serological cases are common, this assesment relies heavily on serological test results.
The result of many studies indicate that ELISA(enzyme linked immunoabsorbent assey) method is sensitive, specific and objective as a routine procedure for the precise quantification of the antibodies of rubella.
So, the distribution of rubella antibody(IgG) titer in 100 pregnant women was determined by ELISA method.
The results were as follows;
1) Antibody against rubella virus(positive titer) was detected in 82 cases among 100 serum specimens with positive rate of 82%.
2) The positive rate of rubella antibody titers were analysed according to the age of the pregnant women, but there was no significant statistical difference among the groups(p> 0.05).
3) The positive rate of rubella antibody between the group of normal pregnancies (83 cases) and the group of pathologic pregnancies(17 cases; including ectopic pregnancies, FDIU, spontaneous abortion, placenta previa, Rh incompatibility) did not show no significal difference (p<0.1) .
In conclusion, the serologic determination of rubella antibody titer in all women of child bearing age, especially in pregnant women, should be included in routine serologic test.
